. >>> in overnight news, a crash in concord leaves one man with life-threatening injuries. police say he was walking across clayton road near bay lie road around 6:15 last night when a car hit him. investigators say the 52-year- old man was not in a crosswalk. he was rushed to john muir medical center. police know who hit him. an investigation is still underway. >>> copper thieves are causing big problems for bay area drivers. alex savidge has a look at -- a look at this problem. >> reporter: copper thieves could be partly to blame for that lengthy commute. they targeted metering lights here at the isabel avenue entrance to 580 here. i will show you what they did. they broke into this electrical box here and they ripped off the valuable copper wire inside and hence the metering lights at this exit/entrance have been out for the couple of weeks. caltrans says a total of 599 lights have been vandalled -- 59 lights have been vandalized. the cost, $35,000 just to repair one of those lights. it takes several months to do the replacement work. thieves are ripping out copper wire from stoplights and freewa

the valley floor. 37 in concord. 37 in walnut creek. so a chillier start in many areas. you're 10 degrees cooler than yesterday morning. around the bay area, widespread, mid-40s to the lower 50s. so not bad outside your door. if i back up this way, look at the pattern here. so there's the system that brought us a few sprinkles early yesterday morning. and now well off to the east. we have a ridge beginning to build on in. as it strengthens, the wind will begin to decrease and that will happen later on today. right now we still remain with a pretty good grade. and that is what's continuing our morning breeze. so in a nutshell sunny skies today. breeze for the morning hours. we'll see a warmer afternoon as the ridge begins to gain control over the bay area. it's going to help warm us up. 64 degrees here. 62 san rafael. mid-60s for concord. down in the south bay you have a nice one in stored for you. low 60s for santa cruz in the afternoon. extended forecast here, so we have a couple of weak systems that will not bring us any rain, but will bring down the ridge just a little bit on monday. t
we are in the east bay. look at concord at 33. 35 in livermore. usually we are much, much cooler here. with the end, we are looking at the numbers staying up. 46 san francisco, 38 redwood city. but it's cold in san jose at 35. later on today monterey look gorgeous for the third round of the pebble beach program. 39 right now. 33 in watsonville. just 30 in gilroy. so mostly clear and cool this morning in spots. in fact near freezing in some spots. sunny and dry over the weekend. looks like the mild weather pattern, it's going to last right into next week. we are getting close to president's day where we certainly could use some new snow. but we are looking at the system sinking to the south and east of us. this is what brought our rain on thursday, into thursday night. now we have the big ridge of high pressure once again, allowing for a cool and drying trend. so we have the flow below, the counter clockwise flow and the clock rice flow around the high allowing for the atmosphere to certainly stay dry and the jet stream to stay well to the north of us. that allows for the dry pattern a

warmer this morning, like napa and fairfield eight or nine degrees warmer and concord is a degree cooler. temperatures are going to run in the 30's, mid-30's to upper 30's from now through 7:00, and here are a few 40's. temperatures at noon, the low-to-mid 50's and the stronger sunshine will get two minutes more of sunshine today compared to yesterday, so the noontime temperatures are pleasant and during the afternoon hours we will hang it in the upper 50's at the coast and low 60's and in the 40's by 7:00 as the temperatures cool rapidly under a clear, calm, and very dry air mass. tomorrow, like today, maybe one or two degrees warmer, and same thing for wednesday and valentine's day but you will see a few high clouds wednesday and thursday, still, a very bright and very mild forecast. no weather worries here, how about the commute? >> no traffic worries here association far, so good, happy monday morning. 5:10 and light conditions, 680, you can see the tail lights headed southbound making the curve toward highway 24, and, 680 all the way down to 580 looking pretty good. headlights north

it will be much warmer by the afternoon as much as 11 degrees warmer in concord at 60. 58 in san francisco. that's 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. 60 in santa rose. we're going to warm up and dry out. it was wild around the bay area yesterday, we had snow, hail and rain. cate caugiran is in pleasanton right now covering all the wild weather we had yesterday. >> reporter: it's going to get warmer in the afternoon, i want it to be the afternoon right now. it's 37 degrees in pleasanton. let me tell you, we have been watching this temperature gauge. we have been here maybe half hour. we have seen it drop just 3 degrees in the past half hour. that means this cold weather isn't going to go away anytime soon. look at this video from yesterday. on mount hamilton, snow levels fell as low as 2500 feet. bay area peaks were covered in a blanket of snow. and we were able to capture the snow falling sideways at the top. kpix 5 also caught up with a couple of gentlemen who made it up top mount hamilton on bicycles. >> well, we just decided to go camping last nig

in concord that gutted a second story unit on tioga road. barbara dell is live at the complex and joins us now. crews did a good job of containing the fire. >> reporter: kept it from spreading much further. the fire department has left within the past hour. the fire is out, the residents are safe and most of the evacuees have been allowed back inside to their homes here. this after a fire ripped through one of their neighbor's units early this morng. now, the fire department tells us the woman who live there is is very lucky she made it out unharmed. >> the good thing is that the homeowner had a working smoke alarm. it woke her up this morning and saved her life. >> without it? >> without it, she probably would have at least needed rescue and may have even killed her. >> reporter: the fire department believes the fire was accidental. that it started around a gas fireplace in that unit just before 7:00 this morning. they are still trying to figure out what was the source of ignition. the fire destroyed her unit, damaged the unit below and next door. when the fire department arrived, the fir

in oakland. our friends in the east bay from livermore, 31. 35 in concord and just as cool as we were yesterday in san jose at 36. 34 in los gatos. 34 on the coast, though around half moon bay and 32 in watsonville. this morning the big changes come in the north bay as much as 11 degrees colder in napa. and by the delta. elsewhere, san francisco and oakland, certainly cooler. we are looking at some changes tonight as our winds pick up. we will get into an offshore flow. so perhaps some of these colder readings will be offset and we will see some warmer temperatures tonight. but overall we are going to stick with these chilly evenings and the warmer, sunnier days. cold temperatures and the frost as you head on out this morning and we will look for a sunny day today with the winds increasing. the hills in the north and east bay by the late afternoon. the evening hours. and that will allow for some pretty gusty winds but we are looking at our warming trend continuing on track right through the middle of the week. cold, high pressure and the northerly flow continues today and that's allow

. concord 37 tomorrow morning, fairfield 34, napa 34 and upper 30s for san rafael and fremont. about the mid-40s tonight for san francisco. that upper level area of low pressure moved from the bay area and now over top of southern arizona and look at that white you see there right. it's still snowing in portions of southern arizona. moving away from us becoming less of an influence but that counterclockwise wind wrapping around low pressure is enhancing that north flow of air. that's going to keep us chilly. nights in the 30s and afternoons around 60. then high pressure sets up shop just off to our west. there is a lot of moisture in the pacific ocean and it's all going to be aimed just to our north. a lot of rainfall slamming into the west coast but none for us. we likely will stay dry for a week again cold mornings, seasonable afternoons, those storms will just miss perhaps a few showers in the north bay over the weekend. but that's it. i think we stay dry. highs tomorrow upper 50s to near 60. oakland i think will hit 60. 59 for santa clara. mo
